The portfolio is planned over 5 months with specific exercises to encourage reflexivity, one mid-term individual interview and one final-term interview.
-
The portfolio format is completely free but it has to be given at the end of the semester in an electronic version.
-
A guide to carry out personal reflexivity is given, inspired by the ‘experiential learning’ of Kolb.
-
A guide to make a self-evaluation showing progression in competency.
-
An interdisciplinary team of five teachers from different areas of expertise is in support. They conduct interviews and appreciate the quality of the final production.
-
we set up a special frame for helping the students in their portfolio:
-
Practicing reflexivity:
-
Day 0: student sketch a « coat of arm » with four quadrants (see opposite): what they are, what the can rely on, what they fear, what they hope, + their motto. Each student presents another student’s shield.
-
-
-
+2weeks: 1 hour individual “Amazement story telling” of what surprised the students since they started the MSEI cursus. Private writing. No evaluation.
-
+6weeks: tutored exercise of kolb cycle on … the topic of practicing reflexivity ! + individual practice of a reflexive writing following a Cycle of Kolb. Interactive with all students and group debriefing.
-
+8weeks: group oral practice of a reflexive approach following a Cycle of Kolb, on the basis of the “interdisciplinary day” devoted to solve one specific case study in group. Reflexivity about their way of finding a solution (thinking in complexity or applying a recipe (rarely successful)?...) and about the way they organized the group (leader or no leader? Taking notes? Equal sharing of ideas or not?...)
-
The mid-term 1h interview with one of the teachers helps levelling difficulties and gives suggestions.
-
-
Practicing self and co-evaluation:
-
+7weeks: reflexive practice about the meaning of evaluation and how to conduct a self-evaluation. Some use suggested templates (see before), some amend these templates, some students associate to make collectively new templates.
-
Final interview: the interview is conducted following a semi-structured frame. Each student meet only one of the five teachers. This frame helps the teaching team to make the evaluation coherent.
